Diamond is one of the hardest substances on earth and still prone to scratches and chipping off if not handled with care. Since diamond jewellery is a valuable investment, we need to take proper care of it.

Jewellery that is worn on daily basis tend to accumulate dirt, hence it is required to pay extra attention to such pieces. Proper care and handling will keep your jewellery new and bright. Regular cleaning at home will restore your jewellery’s shine, but you need to get few basic items first.

  • Mix detergent liquid in some warm water. Soak jewellery for ten to fifteen minutes; Brush it with a tooth brush to clear the dirt. Rinse the piece of jewellery under running water & wipe it with a clean & soft cloth.
  • While dressing up, jewellery should be worn last so that it does not come in direct contact with perfumes, cosmetics and oils. Always remove jewellery before showering and heading to bed.
  • Before going for a swim, try to avoid wearing jewellery studded with gemstones as chlorine may react with the gem and can cause damage to them.
  • Avoid wearing diamond jewellery during gardening, house cleaning, sports activities etc.
  • As much importance is given to cleaning, appropriate storage of jewellery is also essential.  To prevent jewellery from scratch marks store jewellery pieces in a fabric lined jewel case, pouch or a box with compartments or dividers. It is advisable to store each piece in tissue paper or in small plastic pouches separately.

Try to visit your jeweller twice a year to inspect your diamond accessories and to ensure the setting is strong and secure.
